Jewish population in the Netherlands
A number of approximately 43,000 Jews are resident in the Netherlands, of which 10,000 are Israelis. The Jewish population’s need for care is different from the average Dutch person’s need for care. Psychological as well as physical needs for care are often closely linked to someone’s Jewish identity, which consists of religious aspects (Jewish laws and customs), but also someone’s personal background (Second World War, anti-Semitism and the bond with Israel) and social-cultural aspects. Experiences with persecution are clearly linked to problems with relationships, loneliness and fear of anti-Semitism. A sound knowledge of Judaism and the history of Jews in the Netherlands is essential for successfully helping patients and clients. All partners in the ‘Joods Zorgcircuit’ are experts in this field. Offering psychological security and a safe environment is of vital importance. For more information on the ‘Joods Zorgcircuit’ please send an e-mail to info@joodszorgcircuit.nl .
